Giving and Receiving

Today is a really big day for me.

When Ike and I first got our infertility diagnosis we were devastated.  We didn't know anyone who was having trouble conceiving.  In fact, it seemed like everyone we knew was getting pregnant.

Then one day in the newspaper (yes we still read those way back then) we read an article about two local women who were starting a peer led Resolve support group.  It was wonderful.  A place where we could connect with others.  In fact, my cousin showed up to the same meeting.  We knew the other was having issues, but we also knew we weren't supposed to really know that.

Eventually the group dissolved.  When we moved here we looked online for a support group here.  Especially since we didn't know hardly anyone here.  But there wasn't one.  There were no groups listed for the entire state.

We were shocked.  Especially since we were in such a large metropolitan area.  No support infertility support groups?!?

Then one day, through the miracle of twitter (ha ha) we discovered that a peer led Resolve infertility support group had just started.  I went to the meeting and have continued going every month since May, 2011 as long as we are in town.

Here comes the big part for me.
Tonight I am part of a new group that is forming off of the main group.  This new group will be specifically for people who are interested in adoption after infertility.  And I am going to be the main group leader.  *Yikes*

I am so, so excited about a new opportunity for others to give and receive support.  Especially in the infertility journey.  It is so isolating.

There are so many ways I have received support in my infertility journey.
  • Resolve support groups
  • Blogging
  • Twitter
  • Twitter chats, specifically the ones we have started hosting
What are some of the ways YOU have received support in your journey?  I'd love to hear your stories.  And if you have any tips for me as I lead my first group, I'd love to hear them.

  1. I am SO proud of you for starting the new group!

For me, my best friend and cousin struggled with IF while I was pregnant with my Miss O., so once secondary IF came into my life she was the first IRL person I could talk to about what we were going through.

Online, a forum was a huge support and blogging! I don't know how I would have gotten through all of this without the support of fellow bloggers.
